In the past
Surgical gowns were mostly made of muslin. According to industry publications, the
replacement of reusable fabrics by disposable garments introduction has greatly helped to
decrease the level of contamination risks for both health care professionals and patients.
Specifically, the introduction of a product of called Spunlace helped to pioneer this shift in medical protective apparel. Spunlace replaced paper-derived protective fabrics offering a level of comfort similar to natural reusable fabrics. The winning equation became a combination of a great level of comfort and disposability.
A few years ago
Some companies that produce nonwovens started to sell SMS fabrics enhancing strength
and protection, but they significantly reduced the level of breathability of the fabric –
therefore increasing the discomfort of wearing such armor for long hours.
Today
After thorough research, PGI developed MediSoft® Ultra™ fabrics, a proprietary, patented product
with improved properties that deliver significant enhancements in comfort and protection
for healthcare professionals and patients alike. Product applications include, medical gowns,
surgical drapes and protective apparel.
Softer and more comfortable, MediSoft® Ultra™ fabrics allows healthcare and other workers to wear single-use garments for longer periods of time with a higher level of protection against the spread of fluid and risks of contamination. This proprietary Spunmelt material is an important expansion fo PGIs advanced medical and protective apparel.
